About Yonder

What we’re here for, and how we fit alongside school.

All topics

What is Yonder School?

Yonder School gives teenagers a place to explore interests, follow questions, make real things, and decide what they want to pursue next.

Students can explore independently with Yonder Plan, work one-to-one with a Yonder Coach, or learn with peers in Yonder Class. Together, those options create room for the kind of learning that can be hard to fit into a required school schedule.

Why does Yonder exist?

School can do a lot, but it was never designed to do everything.

Young people also need opportunities to choose their own questions, try unfamiliar things, make something, and learn what deserves their attention. We create space for that work with structure, support, and room for student judgment.

Is Yonder an online school, accredited school, or homeschool program?

No. Yonder School isn’t an accredited school, a full homeschool curriculum, or a replacement for a student’s primary education.

We complement public school, private school, and homeschooling with structured opportunities to explore interests, follow questions, take on Projects, work with adults, and learn with other students. We don’t provide transcripts or diplomas.

How is Yonder different from traditional enrichment?

Yonder gives students meaningful choices inside useful structure.

With Yonder Plan and Yonder Coach, exploration can begin with the student’s own interests and questions. Yonder Classes begin with a shared topic, but students still investigate different questions, develop their own ideas, take on Projects or problems, and make decisions about their work.

We provide starting points, structure, adults, and peers without prescribing every step or requiring every student to arrive at the same answer.

What ages is Yonder designed for?

Yonder is designed for teenagers ages 13–18.

Fit depends less on grade level than on whether a student is ready to explore interests, work on Projects, participate in thoughtful conversations, and make choices with an appropriate level of support.

My teen is doing well in school. Why would they need Yonder?

Doing well in school and practicing how to choose what matters are different things.

A teenager can earn good grades, meet deadlines, and manage a full schedule while most of their questions, goals, and next steps are still chosen by adults. Yonder gives them more opportunities to explore what interests them, make choices, take on meaningful work, and decide what comes next.

How do Yonder Plan, Yonder Coach, and Yonder Class work together?

Yonder Plan is the shared digital workspace, Yonder Coach adds one-to-one guidance, and Yonder Class adds live online small-group exploration.

Plan is included with every Coach membership and Class enrollment, so students have a place to organize and continue their work. Each option can stand on its own, or they can work together over time.

What happens when we start with Yonder?

Start with Yonder asks a few questions about your teen and what your family is looking for.

You can choose Yonder Plan, Yonder Coach, Yonder Class, or tell us you’re unsure. The current Plan path captures early-access interest. For Coach and Class, the next step is an intro call to talk about fit, interests, and what comes next.

Yonder Plan

Explore by yourself. A workspace for curiosity and the work it leads to.

All topics

What is Yonder Plan?

Yonder Plan is a digital workspace that helps students explore interests, organize Projects, plan meaningful work, and keep track of what they’re learning.

Its main parts are Sparks, Projects, My Week, and Journey. Supporting tools such as Explorations, Little Steps, and Reflection help students turn an interesting question into something worth doing. Plan doesn’t assign schoolwork or function as a required curriculum. It provides structure for self-directed work.

Explore Yonder Plan

What are Sparks?

Sparks are questions, ideas, and topics that give students a starting point for exploration.

A student can follow something that already interests them or discover a question they hadn’t thought to ask. A Spark can stay a quick exploration or lead somewhere deeper.

What are Projects?

Projects turn a question or interest into something a student wants to make, research, solve, test, or understand.

Students can break a bigger idea into Little Steps so they have a manageable next action. A Project might become a recommendation, analysis, experiment, design, or another piece of work they can explain.

What is My Week?

My Week helps students make time for what matters to them.

They can plan time for Sparks, Projects, and Little Steps alongside school, activities, and other commitments, then adjust when the week changes.

What is Journey, and what does it keep over time?

Journey is your teen’s growing portfolio of what they’ve explored, built, finished, and learned over time.

Sparks, Explorations, Projects, reflections, and completed work become part of that history, giving them something concrete to look back on, notice patterns in, and build from.

Can my teen use Yonder Plan on its own?

Yes. Yonder Plan can be used independently for $39/month.

A Coach membership or Class enrollment isn’t required. Your teen can use Plan to discover Sparks, organize Projects, plan their week, and build their Journey.

Does every interest have to become a Project?

No. Students can explore a question briefly, save it, follow it further, or move on.

Learning enough to decide that something isn’t for them is a worthwhile outcome too.

Yonder Coach

Go further with a guide. One-to-one support without taking over.

All topics

What does a Yonder Coach actually do?

A Yonder Coach helps your teen turn interests and questions into meaningful action.

They get to know the student, ask thoughtful questions, help scope Projects, work through roadblocks, and support follow-through. The student keeps ownership of the choices and the work.

Explore Yonder Coach

Who are Yonder Coaches?

Yonder Coaches are education professionals with meaningful experience working with young people.

They bring an adult perspective and work within a Yonder approach built around listening, questioning, professional boundaries, and follow-through.

How often does my teen meet with their coach?

Families can choose monthly, twice-monthly, or weekly coaching.

Sessions are live, online, and one-to-one. The choice depends on how much consistency and individual support your teen needs.

See coaching prices

What happens during a coaching session?

Your teen and their coach work with the interests, questions, decisions, or Projects your teen brings.

A session might involve exploring an idea, working through a challenge, reflecting on something they tried, or choosing a practical next step. If your teen doesn’t know what to explore or gets stuck, the Coach can help them notice possibilities, narrow options, break a roadblock into steps, and decide whether to continue, adjust, or change direction.

What if my teen doesn’t click with their coach?

A good working relationship matters.

If the match isn’t working, tell us. We’ll talk through what isn’t clicking and, when another coach is available, help you find a better fit. Families shouldn’t feel stuck in a coaching relationship that isn’t productive.

Can students contact their coach between sessions?

Coaching happens during scheduled sessions.

Coaches don’t privately text, email, message on social media, or have one-to-one conversations with students outside Yonder Coach sessions. Between sessions, Yonder Plan gives students a place to keep exploring, work on Projects, capture questions, plan next steps, and keep track of anything they want to bring back to their Coach. Parents can contact us separately about scheduling, account questions, or other administrative needs.

Yonder Class

Think bigger with a group. Shared questions, different perspectives, real work.

All topics

What is a Yonder Class?

Yonder Class is a six-week live online small-group experience built around a shared topic.

Students investigate questions, take on Projects and problems, discuss ideas, give and receive feedback, and finish with a Project, solution, recommendation, or capstone they can explain and defend.

How do the six weeks work?

Students start with a shared question, investigate evidence and perspectives, choose a Project direction, build and improve their work, and share a finished capstone.

Between live sessions, they explore and develop work to bring back to the group. The shared topic leaves room for different student directions.

What happens during live online time?

Live time centers on Socratic discussion, real questions, disagreement, feedback, Project work, and collaborative problem-solving rather than long lectures or worksheet-driven curriculum.

Students explain their reasoning, hear other perspectives, and use the group’s questions to deepen their thinking. The goal is active investigation, not passive screen time.

What classes are currently available?

The current Class is Money, Investing, and Personal Finance.

Students explore how money works, financial decisions, investing, and the stock market through discussion, problems, and a capstone. Students don’t need prior expertise to join, only enough interest to explore the topic, participate in discussion, and do the work between meetings. Available Class details are listed on the Classes page.

Explore the current Class

How large are Yonder Classes?

Yonder Classes are designed for 8–12 students.

That’s large enough to bring different perspectives into the conversation while still giving every student meaningful opportunities to discuss, contribute, get feedback, and be known by the facilitator.

When do Yonder Classes meet?

Class schedules vary by cohort.

Current meeting days and times are listed with each available Class so families can choose an option that fits their schedule.

Who leads Yonder Classes?

Classes are led by education professionals who know how to facilitate discussion, Projects, and student-led inquiry.

Their job is to frame worthwhile questions, create enough structure for the group to go somewhere, and help students do the investigating and thinking rather than lecture at them.

Parents & student ownership

Student-owned doesn’t mean student-alone.

All topics

How involved are parents?

Parents stay connected without taking over the experience.

You should understand what your teen is exploring, what they’re working on, and where they may need support without having to manage the experience for them. You can ask useful questions, encourage follow-through, and help when needed while your teen keeps meaningful ownership of what they pursue.

For Yonder Coach and Yonder Class, parents also have access to recordings of every live session or meeting. The exact form of parent visibility depends on the Yonder experience.

What does “student-owned” mean?

Student-owned doesn’t mean student-alone.

Your teen keeps meaningful ownership of what they explore, what they make, and which direction they take next. We provide structure, useful tools, thoughtful adults, and other students who can help them go further without choosing the path for them. Changing direction can be a useful result of exploration, not a failure to commit.

What if my teen needs more structure?

Different students need different amounts of structure.

Yonder Plan provides Sparks, Projects, Little Steps, My Week, and Journey to help students move from an interest toward something concrete. Yonder Coach adds one-to-one guidance when a student benefits from another adult helping them think through choices or work through roadblocks. Yonder Class adds a shared topic, regular meetings, peers, discussion, feedback, and a finished capstone.

What will I know about what my teen is doing?

Parents have meaningful visibility without taking over the experience.

What that looks like depends on whether your teen is using Yonder Plan, Yonder Coach, or Yonder Class. Before you begin, we’ll explain what you’ll be able to see, what we’ll communicate with you, and what remains your teen’s space. For Coach and Class, parents and students also have access to recordings of every session or meeting.

How do we enroll?

Begin with Start with Yonder.

Tell us about your teen and which option interests you, or let us know you’re unsure. If you choose Yonder Plan, you can begin with the digital workspace. For Yonder Coach and Yonder Class, the next step is an intro call so we can talk through fit and answer questions before you decide.

What is the Yonder Class refund policy?

Fit, safety & boundaries

All topics

Is Yonder tutoring, therapy, or college admissions counseling?

No. Yonder isn’t tutoring, therapy, or college admissions counseling.

We focus on exploration, Projects, meaningful work, decision-making, and student direction. We don’t provide subject tutoring or homework help, clinical or mental-health treatment, or college application and admissions strategy.

Who is Yonder a good fit for, and when might it not be right?

Yonder is a good fit for teenagers ages 13–18 who could use more opportunities to explore interests, make choices, take on meaningful work, and decide what they want to pursue next.

They don’t need a defined passion, career goal, or polished Project. Curiosity, willingness to participate, and an appropriate level of independence are enough to start. Yonder may not be the right solution when the primary need is subject tutoring, clinical or mental-health treatment, college admissions strategy, or a full replacement-school curriculum.

How are coaches and facilitators selected?

We look for education professionals with meaningful experience working with young people and the judgment to guide without taking over.

Coaches and facilitators are screened, references are reviewed, and they receive Yonder-specific training on our approach, professional boundaries, and student safety. We also expect them to ask useful questions, notice patterns, challenge students appropriately, and know when to leave room for the student to decide.

How do you approach student safety?

Safety is built into how we run Yonder. Because Yonder serves teenagers ages 13–18, a parent or guardian is part of enrollment and remains the family contact. Coaches and facilitators are screened, trained on professional boundaries and student safety, and use Yonder-approved systems rather than personal accounts or social media.

Every Yonder Coach session and Yonder Class meeting is recorded. The student, their parent or guardian, and Yonder have access to those recordings. That creates transparency around the experience while still giving students room to have genuine conversations and participate independently.

We also maintain clear expectations for appropriate adult-student interactions, a way for students and parents to raise concerns, and procedures for escalating safety concerns when needed. Yonder is an educational and mentoring experience, not emergency or mental-health crisis care.

Are Yonder Coach sessions and Yonder Class meetings recorded?

Yes. Every Yonder Coach session and Yonder Class meeting is recorded.

The student, their parent or guardian, and Yonder have access to the recording. Recording provides transparency around the experience and gives families a clear record of what happened during live sessions.
